Buy me a coffee

The Big Food Shop is free to use, and it's run by one person. If it's made your week a bit calmer, a coffee helps keep it that way.

The clever bits use real AI

When you paste a recipe link or snap a photo of a cookbook page, the app sends it to an AI service that reads it and pulls out the ingredients, the method and the timings. The same is true of "Plan my week", which looks across your recipes to pick a week that shares ingredients and wastes less.

Every one of those moments costs a little money, and it adds up as more people use the app. Your support keeps them working, and keeps them getting better.

It's just me

The Big Food Shop is built, looked after and answered for by one person. There's no big company behind it, no investors, no ads and no subscription. Just someone who got fed up of dinner planning and decided to do something about it.

A coffee goes a very long way when the whole team is one person. It pays for the running costs and keeps the lights on, so I can keep improving the app instead of worrying about it.

You keep the good bits free

Everything you use today, from importing recipes to sharing a shopping list, stays free for everyone. Support from people who find the app useful is what makes that possible, without locking the useful parts behind a paywall.

If the app has saved you a wasted bag of spinach or one less trip to the shops, that's exactly the sort of win a coffee celebrates.

Where the costs actually go

Reading a recipe from a website, understanding a photo of a cookbook page, and working out a week of meals that share ingredients all mean sending your recipe to an AI service, which charges each time it thinks. It's a few pennies per recipe, but across everyone using the app it becomes the single biggest cost of running The Big Food Shop.

Supporting the app doesn't change anything about how you use it. It simply means the features keep working, and there's budget to make them better.
